So, I'm still waiting to hear if I am accepted into the education program or not. The set date for the results is next Monday. The anticipation is high, and I cannot wait to hear the results. I am looking forward to the email and I really hope it contains what I want to hear.
In other news, just wanted to do a little update on my classes so far this semester.
I have come to the realization that classes that I thought were not relevant have turned out to contain a lot of useful information to the teaching profession. In particular, I did not think that Lifespan Development would benefit me much once I become a teacher. However, I have come to realize that knowing how the mind develops with each phase of life would be very relevant information being a teacher. My understanding of how a child's brain is growing and developing will help me teach more efficiently. Early childhood years are critical moments to learn new information for children. The information that they learn in this stage sticks with them for a very long time.
My technology class has also brought up a lot of relevant information. In particular, the issue of copyright. I did not understand how much there was to the copyright law. Each type of material such as print, text, media, etc. all have their own copyright laws and this class has introduced me to that. I am now more aware of copyright agreements and how to legally use a piece of copyrighted material. Being aware of the copyright law will allow my actions to be legal.
My elementary math class is going okay. I am learning good material that will be very relevant once I get into the classroom. However, I wish my teacher was a little better. She does not teach the material very well and she does not really help us to learn ways that we can introduce and teach the material to children. My first elementary math teacher was awesome. He helped us learn new ways to introduce material and he had a good outlook on teaching math to young children. I wish that my current teacher would do the same thing. Instead of it being a class where we just learn the material, it should be more of a class that we learn the material as well as learn how to teach the material. Young children have different minds than adults and they need creative ways to learn tough material. I feel like my current class should help me in this aspect.
My other classes have not brought about much relevant material to my teaching profession. I am currently taking astronomy and I honestly do not understand how it will help me to become a better educator. I guess the extra science that we are required to take is just a way for us to obtain further knowledge on things that we may not have known before. I have learned a lot of fun facts that I did not know before that could apply to every day life....somehow.
Well, that's all for now. It's time to study a bit and then get a good night's rest! Goodnight!
